Galwegians 5-8 Shannon: Shannon booked their place in this year's AIB Cup final after a low scoring 8-5 win against Galwegians at Crowley Park.
In testing conditions Shannon played a tight game to keep their hopes of a league and cup double alive.
Shannon opened the scoring in the 17th minute when, after a
controlled build-up following the lineout, flanker Niall Ronan
broke from the back when he spotted a gap to go over
the Galwegians line. In blustery conditions David O'Donovan
missed the conversion.
Liam Bibo and O'Donovan would miss more
opportunities with the boot but the Shannon kicker eventually
found the target in the 65th minute. With an 8-0 lead Shannon look
assured of the win.
However, with just minutes to go Galwegians winger John Cleary scored his seventh try of the season to keep slim hopes alive. Bibo missed the conversion but Shannon's defence still had to remain strong to see out the seven minutes of injury time.
Shannon will now take on Blackrock College in next Saturday's final at Dubarry Park with kick-off at 3.30pm.
