Six Nations:Ireland under-20 coach Mike Ruddock has made a number of changes to the side which lost against France ahead of Friday night's Six Nations game against Scotland in Inverness.

Shane Buckley has been promoted from the bench along with centre JJ Hanarahan, who both make their first starts of the campaign.

“We are looking forward to travelling to Inverness and to playing Scotland,” said Ruddock, whose side is fourth in the standings after their opening win against Italy and the 38-13 defeat to France at Dubarry Park.

“We have a panel determined to do better. We felt we have not been as effective in our defence as we would have hoped and have asked players to look at that and for a positive reaction. If we can achieve that we will see an improvement.”

Kick-off at Tulloch Stadium on Friday is 7.30pm.

Coach Philip Doyle also named his Ireland Women’s team to play Scotland in Saturday’s fixture at Lasswade RFC, Edinburgh (kick-off 2pm).

Doyle has also made a number of changes to the side that lost 12-14 to France in Ashbourne last time out.

Leinster’s Emer McManamly will start in the frontrow with Heather O’Brien coming into the secondrow to partner Marie-Louise Reilly, while Laura Guest moves from secondrow to the backrow.

Lauren Day and Carol Staunton have been named in the replacements.

“We came very close to a win against France, but in the end they held out. We can take a lot of positives from that performance with us to Scotland,” said Doyle.

"The mood in the camp is upbeat and there is a sense of desire to deliver a performance in what will be another tough encounter against Scotland"
