England have formally ruled Harlequins wing David Strettle out of their World Cup campaign.

Strettle broke the fifth metatarsal in his left foot during training yesterday and he now faces a 12-week lay-off.

Strettle will have a screw inserted into his foot in London tonight but England head coach Brian Ashton has no plans to call a replacement into his training squad.

Ashton will name the 30-man World Cup party next Tuesday.
