Rugby:Gavin Henson's brief dalliance with Toulon came to an abrupt end this morning after the Welshman was shown the door for not following the "code of conduct set by the club." Henson played just two matches for the big-spending Top 14 outfit.
Toulon president Mourad Boudjellal had said last week that Henson has been “difficult to manage” since arriving in February. He had been signed on a short-term deal but was hoping to earn a permanent contract.
Henson had served a week-long sanction, imposed by the club, following an incident in a nightclub, and Boudjellal decided this morning not to retain the player’s services. The incident followed Henson’s second appearance for Toulon after his controversial move from Saracens.
Henson was hoping to convince head coach Philippe Saint-Andre to give him a new two-year deal, as well as reviving his Wales career ahead of the World Cup. The 29-year-old was initially hampered by a hamstring injury, but made a try-scoring debut against Stade Francais and made his second start in the victory over Toulouse.
But the former Ospreys man, who joined Toulon after a short spell with Saracens, now looks certain to miss out on an international return and faces an uncertain future.
Henson last played for Wales in the 2009 Six Nations before a combination of personal problems and injuries prompted him to take unpaid leave from the Ospreys. After some reality television appearances, he signed with Saracens to end an 18-month period out of the game.
