Sexton remains on course for Six Nations

Ireland outhalf recovering from knee ligament injury

Leo Cullen suggested that Johnny Sexton is still on target to make Ireland's opening game in the Six Nations against Scotland next month. The outhalf is back running and while he won't play against Lyon on Sunday or next weekend against Benetton, he is making good progress from the knee ligament injury.

James Ryan (calf) misses out on Sunday's game against Lyon but should be available for selection ahead of the trip to Italy the following Saturday.

Cullen said: “James got a bang on his calf last week. He is okay. He will be back in the mix, we hope, next week,” while when asked about Sexton’s likely return being in time for the Six Nations, he added, “yeah, that's exactly what it looks like at this stage.

"He is back running now himself and is looking pretty good. Next week is probably a little bit too soon but he is making good progress."
