SCHOOLS' RUGBY:  Captain Shane Robertson showed a maturity beyond his years in assuming the responsibility to face up to the last kick of the game and shoot St Conleth's College past De La Salle, Churchtown, 16-15, and into the second round of the Leinster Schools' Section A (Duff) Junior Cup at Newtownpark Avenue yesterday.

St Patrick's Classical School's Anthony Cutajar showed his versatility in moving from prop forward into hooker and taking time out to finish two tries as they recovered from a 13-0 deficit in a 20-13 win over Gorey Community School in Tallaght.

Good Counsel College were well served by kicker Brendan O'Gara's conversions of his try and another from Danny O'Sullivan in the 14-5 defeat of Newpark Comprehensive at Arklow.

Outhalf Eoin Mulhall shot 16 points, including both conversions of tries from Conal Owens and Ross Traynor, in Naas CBS's comfortable 26-3 victory over Mount Temple at Castleknock.

Chris Lilly's breakaway try sealed St Columba's College's 19-12 superiority over St Paul's College and Maynooth Post Primary were inspired by Sam Holt's brace in a 22-17 hum-dinger with Marian College at Clondalkin.

When St Fintan's High School struggled to break Sandford Park's stubborn defence, wing Declan Ryan went around the outside for the game-breaking score (16-12) and Skerries Community College's two Ians, Mulvihill and Murphy, crossed in the 14-5 success against Wilson's Hospital.
