Cork City 0 Bray Wanderers 0:AFTER ALL the pre-match hype on Leeside, this one failed to produce a goal or any real excitement with a well disciplined Bray suffocating the multi-talented but ultimately frustrated Cork City side.
The home side's midfield had Colin Healy back, the former Ireland international alternating between the wing and the centre circle where he and George O'Callaghan seemed happy enough to share what could prove to be a hotly-contested role.
Bray set their stall out with five across the midfield and turned out to be as keen on a point as that may suggest. Debutants Gavin Whelan and Ger Rowe were at the centre of the better moves though a decent shot on target was the one thing missing.
It was largely a scrappy opening half which was dominated by the home side.
When breaking through to the final third, Cork did however piece together more fluid moves that could have easily yielded a Dave Mooney hat-trick.
Between a disallowed volleyed goal, a 29th minute shot striking the crossbar and a gilt-edged header that went just over after 41 minutes, the Dubliner's first league game on Leeside was close to being memorable one.
Bray opened the second half well, but a scrappy phase which saw bookings for Derek Pender, team-mate Patrick Kavanagh and O'Callaghan killed their dominance with Cork ultimately taking the initiative back.
That said, they were reduced to lofted crosses into the box that centre backs Colm Tresson and Ray Kenny were more than comfortable negating.
