Reid denies Valley rumour

Reports that Andy Reid was on the verge of a move to Charlton Athletic looked to be unfounded last night with both the player and senior sources at the London club denying any knowledge of an offer for the Republic of Ireland international.

Nottingham Forest manager Joe Kinnear had spoken last week of Charlton having watched Reid in action for the League One club in a recent game. And, with Alan Curbishley still having a portion of the £11 million fee he received for Scott Parker to spend, there was growing speculation that the Dubliner was a target and that a deal was close to being done.

Yesterday, however, Reid insisted he was unaware of any activity, with the 22-year-old insisting he has had no contact with either his agent or club about the possibility of a move.

"I don't know anything about it to be honest," he said. "I've come over here and I'm looking to concentrate on this game but I haven't spoken to my agent or heard anything about any offer from any club so as far as I'm concerned there is nothing to it."

Charlton sources also played down reports of an impending deal and went as far as suggesting that Reid is not a major target for the club.

Reid has long been linked with a move to Tottenham with the club making a £5 million offer for him last January and, according to reports, one of around £3 million over the summer months.

Kinnear maintained last week Reid would be staying at Forest until a club offered £5 million for the midfielder again.

Reid initially said that he was happy to stay at the City Ground but has recently asked for a transfer, something he may well yet get before the transfer window closes at the end of this month.
