Voleuse De Coeurs likely to attempt Leger follow-up in France

Voleuse De Coeurs joined Vinnie Roe on the Irish Leger roll-of-honour at the weekend and is in line to further emulate the former Dermot Weld-trained star in the French St Leger towards the end of next month.

Vinnie Roe scored the first leg of his remarkable Irish Leger four-in-a-row in 2001 and later that season followed in the French version, the Prix Royal Oak, at Longchamp.

With a tilt at the Melbourne Cup ruled out, Weld's newest Group One staying star will be given the chance to secure a classic follow-up in France on October 27th according to James Kelly, racing manager to Voleuse De Coeur's owner, Lady O'Reilly.

“She was one hundred per cent after the race and the only real option now is to run in the French St Leger at the end of October,” he said. “The boss doesn’t want to go for the Melbourne Cup, but she would be delighted to try to win another classic with her.”

Yeats, a four-time Ascot Gold Cup winner, was the last Irish-trained winner of the Prix Royal Oak when successful under Johnny Murtagh five years ago.
