Punchestown: Elliott’s Galvin set to take chance against Mullins duo

Gordon Elliott's Cheltenham festival winner Galvin is set to return at Punchestown on Wednesday but faces a major task against a pair of Willie Mullins-trained rivals.

The Grade 3 Daily Star Chase has proved a happy hunting ground for Elliott over the years including with The Storyteller a year ago.

His Gold Cup hero Don Cossack also won back to back in 2014-15.

Galvin landed the long-distance National Hunt Chase in March but is hardly being eased back into action.

In other news the Dewhurst Stakes runner up Dubawi Legend is on course to take his chance at the Breeders Cup in Del Mar next month.

Hugo Palmer’s star found only Native Trail too good in Britain’s top juvenile contest on Saturday and has bounced out of that contest in good shape.

“He ran an absolute blinder. He showed the world what we have always thought of him, that he is a two-year-old out of the very top drawer. We’ve been very excited about him for a long time and it was great he came out and did that. It sucks being second, you’re the first loser, and on some ratings he’s the third best two-year-old in Europe,” said Palmer on Tuesday.

“At the moment we are planning as if we are going to Del Mar for the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf. He’s going to need to be in top order for us to do that but he’s come out of the race phenomenally well. He actually put on 2kg for the run. He’s a lightly raced horse and he’s had plenty of breaks through the season. The 2000 Guineas is a proper hustle and bustle race and I think the trip to Del Mar will really make him grow up,” the Newmarket trainer added.
