His mother Patricia also a successful sprinter, Lawler was schoolboy champion several times over, before winning a bronze medal in the 200m at the World University Games in 2019. The 2020 national champion is ranked third on the Irish 200m all-time list with a personal best time of 20.40. Secured qualification for the Games via his world ranking.
