Rio 2016: Irish in Action on Wednesday

Irish rowers take centre stage in afternoon while Annalise Murphy is also in the water

12.50pm - Rowing

Ireland have two crews competing in semi-finals. Finishing in the top three secures a place in the A Final. The lightweight women's double of Claire Lambe and Sinead Lynch face a real test to take their place in the top six. The lightweight men's double (Gary and Paul O'Donovan) are good tips for a place and will hope to continue the form that saw them win their heat.

3.40pm – Rowing

Having missed out on a place in the A/B semi-final by less than a second, Sanita Puspure must dust herself down when she competes in the C/D equivalent at the Lagoa Stadium. The Cork-based Irish rower can take some small crumb of consolation with the knowledge that her time on Tuesday would have qualified her from any of the other quarter-finals.

5.05pm – Sailing

Another excellent performance yesterday in races three and four moved Annalise Murphy into the silver medal position overall. Today Murphy has races five and six in the women's laser radial while Finn Lynch has another two races in the men's laser.

5.47pm - Swimming

After the utter devastation of Sunday, where she failed to perform as she can do in her favoured 100m breaststroke, Fiona Doyle returns to the Aquatic Centre for the 200m breaststroke. Highly unlikely to advance, nevertheless this Olympic experience will stand to the 24-year-old.

11.15pm – Boxing

He's been on the scene for so long that it's hard to fathom Joe Ward is still only 22 and will be making his debut at this Olympics having controversially missed out on London four years ago. The southpaw is one of the brightest natural talents to emerge in Ireland in any sport with World and European medals already secured. Despite an impressive win over Serge Michel of Germany in the light heavyweight preliminaries, Ecuador 's Carlos Mina shouldn't present the Moate fighter with too many problems tonight.
