The Tipperary rider is steeped in equestrianism, as is his partner Lucy Wiegersma, who was first reserve for Britain at London 2012.

After completing a PhD at the Waterford Institute of Technology, he began his career in showjumping around Europe before moving to the US and started international eventing in 2013.

A technically very good jumper, he is less experienced in eventing.

A breeder, business owner and horse trainer, he is based in Devon, England, and rides bay gelding Simon Porloe or Bernadette Utopia, a bay mare.
