Katie Taylor gets WBA title shot on Anthony Joshua undercard

Unbeaten Taylor will face Anahi Sanchez for lightweight belt in Cardiff on October 28th

Katie Taylor will get a shot at a world title next month, fighting on the undercard of Anthony Joshua's heavyweight clash with Kubrat Pulev in Cardiff.

Taylor will fight Argentina’s Anahi Sanchez for the WBA lightweight belt at the Millennium Stadium on October 28th.

The Cardiff bout will be Taylor’s seventh since she turned professional last year, and she will be looking to protect her 100 per cent record in the Welsh capital.

Two-weight world champion Sanchez beat compatriot Cecilia Sofia Mena to take the vacant WBA belt on Saturday night thanks to a sixth-round stoppage.

Sanchez, 26, is Taylor’s most experienced opponent in the professional ranks thus far, and has a record of 17-2-0.

“I’m delighted the world title fight has been confirmed, and on such a big stage as well,” said Taylor, who won lightweight gold at London 2012.

“This is what I’m in boxing for, to win world titles and be in big fights on big nights like this.

“Sanchez has won multiple world titles so I’m expecting a very tough fight but I definitely feel I’m ready for it and these are the kind of challenges I want.”
