Girls' 4x100m relay team show medal potential in Hungary

Irish quartet win heat in impressive style and go into Saturday’s final with every chance

Day five at the European Youth Olympics Festival in Gyor, Hungary and Team Ireland once again showed their medal winning potential in the girls' 4x100m relay.

After winning their heat in an impressive 46.31 seconds, the Irish quartet of Niamh Foley, Miriam Daly and individual medallists Rhasidat Adekele (200m silver) and Patience Jumbo-Gula (100m bronze) will head into Saturday’s afternoon’s final with every chance of signing off on the medal podium.

The Netherlands went marginally quicker in heat two, running 46.26, while Hungary won the third heat in 47.31, which leaves the Irish second fastest.

The boys’ 4x100m relay team had to withdraw due to injury.
