Cork rider Billy Twomey was in flying form at the RDS when he recorded a first and second placing in yesterday’s two international speed classes.

Ardcolum Duke claimed the Clayton Hotel Speed Derby from 19 starters. Twomey then partnered the grey Cavalier gelding Tin Tin to a runner-up placing in the Serpentine Speed Stakes from 38 starters.

This class was won by Lorenzo De Luca from Italy with his grey Irish sporthorse gelding Limestone Grey, which won Wednesday’s Sport Ireland Classic from 49 starters.

The Clayton Hotel Speed Derby, worth €24,600, was dominated by Irish riders.

Twomey was unstoppable with a time of 84.70 seconds, while US-based Shane Sweetnam on the bay Cardento-sired Cyklon was clear in 85.84.

Former world champion Dermott Lennon was in the money with his own gelding Vampire for third in 86.99, while Greg Broderick and Zuidam were fourth.

Denis Lynch and his Darco stallion Ho Go van de Padenborre gave chase for sixth place.
