Davis Cup captain Garry Cahill steps down

Ireland skipper will continue as Performance director of Tennis Ireland

Ireland's Davis Cup captain Garry Cahill has decided to step down with immediate effect, after a successful four year term in charge of the team. He will continue in his role as Performance Director of Tennis Ireland, a position he has held since 2004.

“I am very proud of my time as Irish Davis Cup Captain. I would like to thank the players and the Board of Tennis Ireland for their support during the four year period I was in charge,” said Cahill.

Ireland faces Belarus in March in their Euro-Africa Group ll tier of the competition. It is a division of the competition several tiers below the World Group level at the top.

“I believe the team have the ability to beat Belarus in March and I wish everyone involved the very best of luck in their preparations for that tie”.

Cahill will continue in the BNP Paribas National Tennis Academy at DCU in a full-time role.

Tennis Ireland intends to appoint a successor to Cahill within the next two weeks so as to ensure an adequate period of preparation for the March 2015 home tie against Belarus.
