Championship Irish swimming team picked

Sycerika McMahon leads a four-person Irish team to this year’s World Championships in Barcelona, which run from July 20th-August 4th. The European silver medallist travels with Fiona Doyle, Chris Bryan and Barry Murphy for the July Championships.

Bryan will competes in the 10k Open Water event. The 22-year-old, who has shown some good form this year when won the Portuguese Open earlier this month, starts on July 22nd.

Canada-based Doyle, who broke the 100m and 200m Irish senior breaststroke records in 2013, has also shown some fine form. Based in Canada, the 21-year-old joins McMahon, who qualified for last year's Olympic Games in the 200m IM. After the World Championships, McMahon will move her training base out of Ireland and take up a scholarship in Texas after the summer.

Murphy completes the team on the basis of his 50m breastroke time. He is recommended by the national performance director, Peter Banks based on his time of 27.53 in April’s Irish Nationals.
