RACING NEWS: The Jockey Club opted yesterday to take an even-handed approach in the fall-out after the BBC's Kenyon Confronts programme as trainer Jamie Osborne received a £4,000 fine for bringing racing into disrepute.

The level of the punishment mirrors that handed out to Ferdy Murphy last month, who also featured in the programme entitled They Fix Races, Don't They?, which was screened in June.

The third trainer involved, David Wintle, will face a Disciplinary Committee hearing of his own early next year.

A shaken Osborne declined to answer questions afterwards but issued a short statement, where he said: "I would like to place on record my most sincere apologies to the industry for the part I have unwittingly played in the recent detrimental publicity that racing has suffered. "
