O'Halloran to stay with hometown club

News: Greg O'Halloran looks set to retain his place in Cork City's starting line-up for this evening's clash with Shelbourne at Turner's Cross after patching up his differences with the club and suggesting he will sign a new contract.

O'Halloran performed well in Friday's 2-0 defeat of St Patrick's Athletic. It was the 23-year-old's first start of the season and came after Neal Horgan broke his leg against Waterford last week.

After the game he said he hopes to remain with City and hinted that a deal could be finalised as soon as club chairman Brian Lennox returns from Spain this week. "I'm a Corkman and this is the club I want to play for," he said. "It's made a big difference to be playing again this week and I think I bring a lot of enthusiasm to the side. Hopefully we can sort it all out this week."

City will again be without Horgan and Stephen O'Flynn for the game, while Shelbourne are at full strength.

Shels manager Pat Fenlon may opt to stick with the same side that beat Dublin City on Friday although he admits his players had to work hard for that victory.

"We had it tough because their game-plan was to frustrate us and they succeeded." he said. "Cork are a good side but their approach will be different, particularly down there, and that might just suit us a bit better too."

Shamrock Rovers are likely to be without Liam Kelly for this evening's game against Waterford United at Richmond Park after the striker suffered a recurrence of a groin problem .

Only left back John Frost is ruled out of the game for the visitors.
