LEINSTER v MUNSTER:MICK DAWSON, the Leinster Branch chief executive, admits that because of the World Cup, the province are about 4-5,000 behind in ticket sales for the November re-run of Friday night's Leinster-Munster League clash, aka the Fever in the Aviva 2.
The corresponding fixture last season, which Leinster won 13-9 in round five of the League on October 2nd to kick-start their campaign, drew a capacity of 50,645, although aside from there being no World Cup, Dawson also stresses that it was both a Saturday night game and the first competitive rugby match in the newly built stadium.
“The World Cup is the World Cup and that’s life,” said Dawson yesterday, “but also an 8pm kick-off on a Friday night is not ideal for Munster supporters. There was also a curiosity factor a year ago, but I still think the Leinster-Munster rivalry has enough oomph to make it another sell-out.”
With prices modified and reduced slightly from the corresponding game, ticket sales were at about 43,500 as of yesterday.
“We’ve brought some of our prices down and re-tiered the stadium basically,” said Dawson, who reiterated that the remaining tickets are on sale at the usual outlets, namely www.leinsterrugby.ie, the Leinster Rugby Store (Donnybrook), Spar (Donnybrook) and Ticketmaster outlets nationwide.
