DIVISION THREE Meath 0-10 Wicklow 0-8:Meath got their league campaign back on track at Aughrim yesterday after a disastrous losing start to Monaghan the previous week.

But a second successive league defeat leaves Wicklow hovering in the relegation zone. Once again it was Wicklow’s opponents who controlled most of the play yesterday with Meath’s corner-forwards Michael Newman and Sean Tobin the executioners as they racked up nine points between them.

In contrast Wicklow lacked forwards of that quality with only two of their eight points coming from their attackers, corner-forward Brendan McCrea and John McGrath chalking up a point each.Graham Reilly levelled for Meath after 12 minutes and then Newman shot a fine brace, the first from a free, but Wicklow had narrowed the gap to 0-6 to 0-4 after 29 minutes after Anthony McLoughlin responded with two rapid-fire scores.

However the last five minutes were a nightmare for Wicklow. Sean Tobin hit the home team with three points, Paddy Gilsenan chipped in with a fourth and Meath led by 0-10 to 0-4 at the break.
