CYCLING NEWS:SHOWING FINE early-season form, David McCann had an aggressive showing on the final day of the Tour de Langkawi in Malaysia yesterday.

The Belfast rider was in three separate moves during the 133.7km final leg to Kuala Lumpur, nabbing a king of the mountains prime halfway through and then attacking 14km from the end. He and two other riders held off the chasing peloton until roughly 2km to go.

Australian rider Stuart Shaw (Drapac Porsche) then led home this main bunch, bringing the race to a close.

McCann sat up after his recapture and rolled in in 67th place, finishing the race 25th overall. He was nine minutes 27 seconds behind Jose Rujano (ISD-Neri), and showed fine form for his first race of the season.

He will begin the Tour of Taiwan next weekend, a key target of his Giant Asia team.
