A well-known Irish commentator was on the receiving end of some gentle ribbing last month when he was approached by horse trainer Gerry O'Neill. It was pointed out that the commentator was pronouncing the name of his horse incorrectly every time he mentioned it on air. The horse's name was being pronounced A-HIN-DE-CLINT and was spelt Ahinduclint. Well how do you pronounce it the trainer was asked ?
So O'Neill explained. It appears that several lads from the yard went in one evening to watch a Clint Eastwood film in Limerick city. During the show our hero fell into dire straits. One of the bad guys was sneaking up from behind, a machete raised over him ready to strike. Tense was the moment. That is until a local behind the lads jumped from up his seat and in a thick Limerick accent screamed his warning -"A-HIND-OOO-CLINT, AHIND-OOO-CLINT." And so the horse was named.
