Huddersfield manager Lou Macari has been charged with "violent behaviour towards a match official" by the English FA. Macari has 14 days to respond to the charge but unless he can plead his innocence he faces a 12-match touchline ban.

The incident occurred during Saturday's 1-1 draw at Portsmouth when Macari appeared to shove Barry Wade in the chest as tempers flared following a challenge by Town midfielder Simon Baldry on Ceri Hughes.

After the game, Macari insisted he did not realise he had touched Wade, although the fiery former Scotland forward was ordered from the dug-out.

Macari is now facing the kind of stringent punishment meted out to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who was also given a 12-match touchline ban after being reported for a physical attack on fourth official Paul Taylor at the end of his side's opening Premiership clash of the season at Sunderland in August.

Meanwhile, the FA have made no decision on whether to charge Southampton skipper Hassan Kachloul for an alleged head-butt on Leeds' Lee Bowyer during the recent Premiership clash at The Dell as the Moroccan was making his way off the pitch after being dismissed.

Scottish officials have sent a warning to all players following a ground-breaking trial by television verdict on Rangers defender Fernando Ricksen. Ricksen's place in the history books was assured when he became the first player in Scottish football to be tried and convicted of an offence solely by video evidence.

The six-man Scottish Football Association disciplinary committee banned Ricksen for two games after finding him guilty of deliberately kicking Aberdeen's Darren Young.

Chairman Jim Oliver warned: "It was so blatant in our view that it had to be investigated. We hope it sends a message out to the players." Aston Villa's England goalkeeper David James has done a U-turn and withdrawn the transfer request he handed in to the Midlands club last week. But James will not be putting pen to paper on the new three-and-a-half year contract offer on the table in the foreseeable future.
