THE Margin's man in Europe was surprised while watching Italian TV last weekend when who popped up on a discussion programme with EU taxation commissioner, Mario Monti, but Brendan Lynch, Ruairi Quinn's economic adviser. Or rather his former economic adviser. Mr Lynch was apparently acting as a stand-in for his former boss in debating the issue before the TV-watching tofisi. He is now returning to the private sector and setting up his own consultancy.
