Progressive Lycian looks the answer to today's Tyne Handicap at Wolverhampton. A fair handicapper on turf, he has acquitted himself better on an all-weather surface with two victories at Lingfield this winter.
James Toller's charge held off yesterday's Lingfield winner Teofilio by a length over a mile at the Surrey track two weeks ago. These two pulled six lengths clear of the third, Priors Moor.
A winner over that course and distance in December, Lycian was a creditable fifth of 20 to Threadneedle over seven furlongs early last month.
Today's extended mile looks tailor-made for him and he could be a value price in this fascinating contest.
