AFTER the excitement and disappointment, for Leinster at least, of last week's inter provisional championship, the leagues go back into action this weekend. In Ulster, league leaders Pegasus do not play but Leinster leaders Muckross play struggling Glenanne away from home.

Muckross will be looking for a good win over Glenanne to maintain their five point cushion at the top of the table as they face two difficult matches in the last three fixtures of the season. They meet Railway tomorrow week and then Hermes in the following fixture. Their lend could be wiped out by a couple of slip ups.

If Muckross do not make the most of the chances, their fate will be decided by either Loreto or Hermes. The latter face each other tomorrow in a game which will at least determine second position in the league and may provide the winner with a stab at glory if Muckross stumble.

At the other end of the league, Clontarf meet Genesis in a match which may be as important as the Hermes Loreto one but here the incentive is to avoid relegation.

Concern has been expressed about the consequences if Clontarf are relegated to the Senior B League and not just in Clontarf circles. They are the only north side club in the top division. If they go down to the Senior B division, the repercussions for the popularity of hockey in that area of the city may be serious.

Away from the senior leagues, Loreto Bray beat the defending champions, Loreto Dalkey, in the replay of their quarter final match in the senior schools cup. The match finished 0-0 after extra time. Bray eventually overcame Dalkey in penalty flicks, 4-3. The semi final matches are scheduled for next Wednesday at 1.30 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Belfield.

Loreto Bray face Wesley College while Newpark face High School.

Following the inter provincials, two names have been added to the Irish panel for a training session at Queen's University, Belfast playing fields. They are Catriona O'Kelly, of Loreto and Leinster, and Patricia Conway, of Old Alexandra and Leinster. Sandra O'Gorman, the long standing Irish goalkeeper, has had to withdraw from the Irish panel due to work commitments.
