Leinster have submitted a second appeal to European Rugby Cup Ltd over the game in which Stade Francais fielded an illegal player in Western Samoan international Brian Lima at Donnybrook. Leinster won the match.

The Irish province appealed to ERC and the French club were found to have transgressed. They were fined £4,000 sterling. Leinster, who had finished runners-up to Stade Francais in the pool, deemed this censure inappropriate and yesterday delivered a second appeal to ERC.

Leinster Branch chief executive Barry O'Sullivan confirmed: "We feel that the fine was insufficient. The rules are there to be observed and have been transgressed. We feel that penalties should be handed out consistently. On Tuesday we appealed for a second time and have as yet heard nothing."

A recourse to legal proceedings should the outcome prove again unsatisfactory has not been ruled out.
