LEINSTER got off to a good start in the women's interprovincial golf championship at Shannon yesterday in an attempt to make it three in a row when they beat Connacht by eight matches to one. Munster beat Ulster 6-3.

Leinster, led by their champion, Suzanne Fanan (Milltown), took two and a points from the three foursomes against Connacht and then won the first four of the singles, halved one and won the last match.

Lilian Behan (Curragh) was making her first appearance in the event since 1985 when she joined the professional ranks. She had a 4 and 3 win over Helen MacMullen (Donegal).
