UCC 0-18 GMIT 0-14:Conor Lehane and Séamus Harnedy destroyed GMIT at Carnmore yesterday, but an ankle injury to Lehane will concern the Cork side, who got the defence of their title off to a winning start.
Lehane was instrumental in dragging his side to the win, and the injury late on could rule him out of next week’s crunch tie with Mary Immaculate in Limerick.
UCC manager Eddie Enright, who captained the side to the title in 1998, is concerned. “We are not too sure of the extent of the injury, but it looked nasty enough. It looked like an ankle injury but we’ll check it out in the next day or two.”
The home side looked in good form in the first half and took a 0-8 to 0-7 lead into the break. Galway senior panellist Tadhg Haran was their main danger man and he gave a masterful performance for the losing side.
After the break Harnedy hit two frees either side of Brian Murray’s point to give UCC the lead and from there they never let up.
