DIT 0-9 NUI Galway 0-7:DIT qualified for the second round of the Sigerson Cup thanks to late points from David Givney and Jason Doherty at a windswept Dangan yesterday. After trailing by three points at half-time, NUI Galway mounted a spirited comeback into a gale to draw level with eight minutes remaining.

But with Aidan O’Shea inspired and Darran O’Sullivan influential after his introduction, DIT set up a next round clash with NUI Maynooth next week. Four points in four minutes from Mark Collins, Doherty and a Bernard Allen brace helped DIT into a 0-5 to 0-2 interval lead against the breeze.

Doherty’s free extended the lead but Galway drew level after points from Ciarán McDonald, Shane Nally and Murtagh before Givney and Doherty clinched DIT’s victory.
