Ismael Kirui, the Kenyan who won the world 5,000 metres championship at Stuttgart in 1993 and retained it at Stuttgart two years later, is to make a return trip to Ireland.

Kirui was confirmed yesterday as the latest challenger for the 10 mile cross-border race on October 12th.

He will join fellow Kenyan Joseph Kimani and Eamonn Martin, a former British 5,000 metres champion, in the men's race which starts at Carlingford and finishes in Newry. Catherina McKiernan heads the entry for the women's race.
