Ireland may have no show jumpers going to the Olympic Games, but Irish riders just keep on winning, with an individual gold at the young rider three-day event championships in England, a team silver in the show jumping and yet another Nations Cup win for the senior show jumpers, this time in Rotterdam for Ireland's ninth victory in the current Samsung series.

William Clarke, a member of Ireland's bronze medal team at last year's young rider championships in Necarne Castle when Sherelle Duke won the world title, took on Duke's mantel this time with the brilliant nine-year-old Gemstone. Fifth after the dressage, 20-year-old Clarke moved up to third with a superb cross country round and then claimed individual gold with a clear in the show jumping.

The team failed to finish when Alex Hynds retired Angel City after the steeplechase and Ian Walsh had a fall at the first water with Hang On. The young rider show jumping quartet of Kieran Howley, Cian O'Connor, Robert Power and Neal Fearon had claimed team silver on Saturday, one fence off the gold which went to France. Meanwhile the senior team continued its winning ways, adding the prestigious Dutch Nations Cup in Rotterdam to the incredible tally notched up this year. A double clear from Jessica Kurten (Paavo) and just half a time fault in two rounds from Dermott Lennon and Liscalgot paved the way for victory, with Robert Splaine and Kevin Babington also assisting in the task.

This was the ninth Irish victory in the current Samsung series and the eighth of the year, leaving Ireland unassailable in the Samsung rankings as they head for the semi-finals in Calgary, Canada in less than a fortnight before the series finals in Rome in October.
