Defending champions Ireland will play Germany in the semi-finals of the the European Amateur Team Championships at Royal Park GC in Turin, Italy, after a comfortable 5.5 to 1.5 win over Sweden today.

Shane Lowry and yesterday's hero Gareth Shaw began the day with a four and two win over Bjorn Akesson and Jesper Kennegard in the foursomes, before Jonathan Caldwell and Paul Cutler beat Fredrik Quicker and Tobias Rosendal six and five.

Shaw then beat Kennegard three and two in the first singles game before Pontus Widegren registered Sweden's first point with a one hole win over Paul O'Hanlon.

Cutler (two and one) and Lowry (one hole) registered a point each with wins over Henrik Norlander and Akesson respectively, while Jonathan Caldwell shared a point with Rosendal.

In the other semi-final England will play either France or Scotland.
