Drogheda U 1 Wexford Y 0:A SOLITARY first-half strike proved decisive as Drogheda made their way into the quarter-finals.
Wexford proved a match for their rivals in the opening half but Drogheda led at the break thanks to a very well-worked goal after 27 minutes. Tiarnan Mulvenna did well to hold off his marker and send the ball out to Ryan Brennan on the right and the latter whipped a superb cross into Peter Hynes who headed home.
However, goalkeeper Gabriel Sava made a couple of outstanding saves to deny Wexford’s Shane Nolan and Dean Broaders. The home side bossed the second half and should have scored again as Hynes went close twice and Gavin Brennan and Declan O’Brien both had efforts cleared off the line.
