Aer Lingus won the European Airlines championship for the eighth time in the past 10 years when they came home a clear four shots ahead of British Airways in the annual championships held in Rome. Played off scratch handicaps the Aer Lingus team of Alan Higgins (Royal Dublin), Pat Farren (The Island), Finbarr Whelan (Laytown and Bettystown), Pat Power (Malahide), John Ferris (Malahide) and Peter Earley (Royal Dublin) were best of a 17-strong field.
