Golf Digest: David Higgins put together an excellent second round of four-under-par 68 at the English Challenge Open to remain in contention for his first Challenge Tour victory for four years.
The Waterville professional is five under after two rounds at the Donnington Grove Country Club, just three behind the leader Richard Bland of England.
"I played nice today," said Higgins, "and it is really good to keep my good run of form going. I'm looking to win this weekend and then get ready for the Tour School, because I am back into Stage Two through making it into the top 80 on the Challenge Tour and it would be good to go there playing this well."
Stephen Browne finished on two over par, with Tim Rice two shots further back on four over and Colm Moriarty finishing on seven over. Play was suspended due to bad light with nine players still to complete round two. The halfway cut will be made on this morning after the completion of round two.
US Tou: A second round 67 took Brent Geiberger into an early, one-shot lead in the Chrysler Classic in Greensboro. Geiberger is on 11-under-par 133 with Jeff Brehaut a shot back on 134.
Champions Tour: Mark McNulty fired an opening round of four-under-par 67 in the SBC Championship at Oak Hills CC, Texas, yesterday.
McNulty trails the early leaders Dave Stockton, James Mason, Tom Jenkins and Tom Kite by one. Des Smyth was one under par after 12 holes.
Curtis Cup: Ireland's Claire Coughlan and Tara Delaney have been named in a 12-strong Curtis Cup training squad by the LGU. Coughlan, Emma Duggleby, Anna Highgate, Anne Laing and Shelley McKevitt from last year's winning side form the nucleus of the squad that also includes Delaney, Stephanie Evans, Sarah Jones, Lynn Kenny, Clare Queen, Kerry Smith and Sophie Walker.
