The Mayo man brought out SIEC Concept to stop the clock on 49.92 seconds, finishing a mere three-hundredths of a second off the pace set by German winner Felix Hassmann.

In third place, in a time of 50.71, was Markus Renzel, also of Germany, on Conally. There were 49 starters.

Hanley's compatriot Denis Lynch then slotted Silwa Little Gun into eighth in the following speed class, but was outgunned by almost 10 seconds by another German winner, this time Hans-Peter Konle.
