Two women having a wonderful season are Elm Park's 23-year-old Linda O'Gorman and Rathsallagh's Denise McCarthy. In the space of a month, O'Gorman has taken her handicap from 32 to 24. She featured in four competitions in June, winning her class with 45 points in the first week and followed with a second in the Professional's (Seamus Green) Prize. A week later off 26, O'Gorman was the overall winner of the strokes competition with a 65 nett to reduce her handicap to 24. Meanwhile, at Rathsallagh, McCarthy lost five shots just before Eileen Mullan's Captain's Prize but it did not stop her winning with a score of 144 which cost her another two shots to 34.
