THE Leinster Branch will recommend to the Golfing Union of Ireland that players revert to playing off their full handicaps for 1997.
At the annual general meeting of the Leinster Branch in Westmanstown Golf Club last night, a number of clubs tabled the motion, which was carried by 164 votes to 110.
The Connacht branch are due to raise the matter at their upcoming general meeting, and their recommendations, along with those of the Leinster branch, will go forward to the GUI's general meeting in February.
Pat Ruddy, the owner of the European Club, also requested that the GUI establish a committee to examine how golf clubs can best respond to the concerns of environmentalists and nature groups in the effort to preserve the natural flora and fauna of general preserves, particularly in links land.
