Racing Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe news: Grey Swallow is set to be supplemented into Sunday's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp after a satisfactory work-out on the Curragh yesterday morning.

A total of €60,000 will have to be paid out to put the Irish Derby winner into the race at tomorrow's forfeit stage but as things stand trainer Dermot Weld looks like giving Grey Swallow the green light.

"He worked this morning and worked satisfactorily. We have yet to make a final decision but it is more likely than not that we will supplement him," Weld said yesterday.

The Curragh trainer also has the four-time Irish Leger hero Vinnie Roe in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and that star stayer was one of 27 left in the race yesterday. However, Weld described him as "unlikely" to run with a trip to Australia for the Melbourne Cup a more probable option.

That Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe 27 also includes the Aidan O'Brien-trained Acropolis who won his sole start of the season to date at Leopardstown earlier in the month.

O'Brien yesterday described him as "being no more than a possible" and he confirmed Brian Boru will miss out on the Prix de l'Arc and the Melbourne Cup in favour of a tilt at the Canadian International at Woodbine on October 24th.

Brian Boru was just beaten by Phoenix Reach in that contest in 2003.

All told yesterday was significant in terms of horses being handed their major end-of-season targets.

With Grey Swallow likely to fly the Weld flag at Longchamp the way is clear for Vinnie Roe and Media Puzzle to return to Flemington in November for another crack at the Melbourne Cup. Both horses travelled in 2002 with Media Puzzle winning and Vinnie Roe running fourth.

Weld said: "Both are in quarantine and it is looking like both of them will be going to Australia."

Vinnie Roe won the Leger on his last start where Media Puzzle finished up in seventh after being unsuited by the soft going.

Such a problem looks increasingly unlikely at Longchamp where the going is currently "good" with little rain forecast before the weekend.

"The forecast is mild with plenty of cloud cover and very little rain. We are taking a cautious approach to watering because we don't want to get hit by showers," said the Longchamp clerk of the course.

The 2002 runner-up Sulamani will not take his chance this time leaving the Godolphin flag to be flown by Mamool (Frankie Dettori.)

"We've run out of time with him. He is now more likely to run in the Champion Stakes or the Canadian International," said Saeed Bin Suroor. "Mamool won two Group One's last year and a Group Three this year so I think he goes with a good chance."

Left in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, however, are both the Derby winner North Light and the double Oaks heroine Ouija Board while last year's runner-up Mubtaker could still make a bid to go one better.
