Ireland's Leona Maguire has been honoured as the leading woman in the 2015 world amateur golf rankings.

The 20-year-old from Cavan has been awarded the Mark H McCormack Medal after an outstanding season in which she won three events.

Maguire also went close to winning a professional event as she finished one off the lead at last month’s Ladies European Masters at Buckinghamshire Golf Club.

Maguire said: “To be able to call myself the best female amateur in the world is a nice feeling. It caps a fantastic year for me and it is rewarding after all the hard work I have put in, and for my family as well.”
