Phil Mickelson looks set to make a return to competitive golf, with the six-time Major champion filing an entry to play in the US Open at Brookline in Massachusetts in June.
Mickelson – who hasn’t played anywhere since competing in the Saudi International on the Asian Tour in the first week in February, and who last played on the PGA Tour at the Farmers Insurance Open in late-January – got flack for comments he made about his home tour, referring to its “obnoxious greed”.
The American opted to skip last week’s Masters and could yet reappear in defence of his US PGA Championship at Southern Hills in Tulsa next month, although there has been no official confirmation as yet from the PGA of America.
That he has filed an entry for the US Open – the only Major he has not managed to win in his bid to complete the career Grand Slam – would indicate that Lefty is preparing to make a return to competition. Mickelson, despite not playing in over two months, is ranked 51st in the world.
