A three-goal burst in the first 15 minutes in Dormund last night fired Germany to next summer's World Cup finals.

Any hopes of Ukraine dumping the two-time winners out were blown away as the Germans came out firing on all cylinders to make sure of their place in the Far East.

Germany were ahead after only three minutes through Michael Ballack, with Oliver Neuville and Marko Rehmer putting the hosts out of sight with less than quarter-of-an-hour on the clock.

Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Ballack grabbed his second of the night just after the break to complete the rout as the Germans secured their 15th appearance in the finals.

He darted to the byline and sent in a wonderful cross to the edge of the six-yard box where Ballack leapt above the defence to send a powerful header past the hapless Maxim Levitsky.

The hosts doubled their lead on the night when they took a 3-1 aggregate lead after 10 minutes.

Schneider's outswinging corner found Marko Rehmer, whose header was parried by Levitsky but Neuville was on hand to smash the ball into the net.

The Ukraine defence was all at sea and Carsten Ramelow had a shot deflected just over, with Dietmar Hamann's drive well saved before Germany grabbed their third after 15 minutes.

A deep corner found Rehmer unmarked some 15 yards out and his header looped over the advancing Levitsky. Any hopes of a Ukranian comeback were dashed five minutes into the second half when Ballack claimed his second
