Galway...0-16 Mayo...0-2: Galway created history when they comprehensively defeated All-Ireland champions Mayo at Pearse Stadium yesterday to claim their first Connacht women's senior football title.
Galway started the game with intent and were three points in front before Mayo responded with two Cora Staunton frees in the 15th and 16th minutes.
Amazingly, these would be Mayo's last scores and Galway led by 0-6 to 0-2 at half-time.
Points from Patricia Gleeson, three from Niamh Duggan, two from Lorna Joyce, two from Lisa Cohill and one each from Ger Kinneally and Michelle Delaney saw Galway outscore Mayo by 10 points to no score in an incredible second half.
Sligo retained their junior Connacht title after defeating Leitrim 4-11 to 1-10.
