Roscommon SFC final/Roscommon Gaels 0-10 Kilbride 0-8: Roscommon Gaels survived a late scare to hold off underdogs Kilbride in a forgettable Roscommon football final at Hyde Park.
The Roscommon town team were holding on to a four-point lead with three minutes left when Stephen Lohan, one of four county panellists on the Kilbride team, won a ball near goal, shrugged off a defender and had a clear shot on goal. However, his shot flew over rather than under the bar, and though the same player hit another point in injury time the Gaels held out for their fifth county title victory in the last 11 seasons.
A solid defensive performance was the foundation for the Gaels' triumph in a game in which both defences were on top, especially when playing against the wind.
