Waterford will be without Austin Gleeson for league final

Waterford will be without Austin Gleeson for Saturday’s Allianz Hurling League final against Cork, with the county board confirming on Tuesday that they won’t be appealing the red card he received late on in the semi-final win over Wexford.

Back to his best form this season after injury, the 26 year-old Gleeson had scored 2-3 in last Sunday’s game with Wexford, before being shown a red card for an incident with Wexford defender Simon Donohoe close to the end.

On Sunday evening Waterford manager Liam Cahill said they would review the incident before deciding on any appeal process, the county board confirming to RTÉ on Tuesday morning that having reviewed the video footage no appeal will take place. Waterford play Cork in Semple Stadium on Saturday evening.

Meanwhile Donegal and Armagh are still awaiting confirmation on whether or not players from both teams may face some penalty after melee which broke out after their Allianz Football League game in Letterkenny on Sunday.

Several players from both teams were seen to get involved after Paddy McBrearty’s late point secured the win for Donegal. The two sides will meet again in the provincial football championship on April 24th in Ballybofey.
