Record TV figures watched Dean Rock kick Dublin to glory

RTÉ reveal Sunday’s final was most watched show on Irish television so far in 2017

Along with the 82,300 attendees watching from Croke Park, over 1.3 million people watched Dean Rock’s All-Ireland winning free from their TVs on Sunday afternoon.

That was the peak viewing figure for Dublin's 1-17 to 1-16 final victory over Mayo, which was the most watched show on Irish television so far this year.

The average audience who watched the match on RTÉ2 was 1,137,500, with 80.65 per cent of all those in Ireland who were watching TV at the time tuned into the action.

RTE have also revealed that Dublin’s three in a row victory had the highest volume of live streams for any football final ever on the RTÉ Player. Total live streams reached 107,451 viewers.

Last year 927,800 viewers tuned in for Dublin’s drawn All-Ireland final with Mayo, with 843,500 watching Jim Gavin’s team win the replay. The Irish soccer team’s Euro 2016 last-16 defeat to France was RTÉ’s most viewed sporting event last year (1.262m viewers).
