Kavanagh earns Carlow a shock win over Dublin under-21 hurlers

CARLOW 1-13 DUBLIN 1-11: An injury-time goal from Marty Kavanagh handed Carlow a deserved two-point win over Dublin in their Bord Gáis Energy Leinster U-21 Hurling Championship quarter-final at Parnell Park last night.

The Dubs opened the scoring through a sixth-minute free from Jamie Desmond and within 30 seconds Dublin senior Eamonn Dillon repeated his goalscoring feat of last Saturday night when finding the net after a surging run.

However, that failed to act as a platform for the hosts, and the visitors remained in contention.

Carlow dominated the remainder of the half with excellent points from John Michael Nolan, Kavanagh and Darren Dalton ensuring a 0-9 to 1-5 interval lead for the visitors.

Dublin pulled two points clear through three Clabby frees upon the restart but Carlow remained in the hunt with Johnny Corcoran and Nolan landing pivotal scores prior to Kavanagh's dramatic late intervention.
